Bradley Wiggins

Born in Ghent, Belgium, Wiggins became a professional road cyclist in 2001. In the 2006 Tour de France, he finished 124th. Three years later he was fourth. He received the CBE in 2009. In 2012, Wiggins won the Paris-Nice (‘Race to the Sun’), matching the success of Tom Simpson, some 45 years earlier.

“To follow in Tom Simpson’s footsteps and become the second British rider to win Paris-Nice is something special.”

Created in 2012, this artwork commemorates the fifty-year anniversary of Tom Simpson becoming the first Briton to wear the maillot jaune (5th July, 1962).
