Tom Simpson Memorial artwork

13th July 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the passing away of British cyclist Tom Simpson, on the upper slopes of Mont Ventoux, France. His place among the legends within the Tour de France hall of fame was already sealed before this tragic moment in the race's long and vibrant history. To commemorate this significant event, a special miniature version of the Mister Tom artwork was created. Only three versions were made - one for Tom’s widow Helen, and two for his daughter Joanne. On request from James Straffon, Joanne Simpson took one of these pieces to the Tom Simpson memorial site on Mont Ventoux, where she left it as a permanent legacy to her father Mister Tom.
