Tom Simpson Memorial artwork

13th July 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the passing away of British cyclist Tom Simpson, on the upper slopes of Mont Ventoux, France. His place among the legends within Tour de France hall of fame was already sealed before this tragic moment in the race's long and vibrant history. To commemorate this significant event, a special miniature version of the Mister Tom artwork was created. Only three versions were made - one for Tom’s widow Helen, and two for his daughter Joanne. On request from James Straffon, Joanne Simpson took one of these pieces to the Tom Simpson memorial site on Mont Ventoux, where she left it as a permanent legacy to her father Mister Tom.

With thanks to Joanne Simpson.

Marta Duponselle, Senior Marketing Manager, Dimension Data.
As part of the When the Fox met The Rooster project, a special artwork was created specific to Team Dimension Data, as a mechanism to generate focus and potential revenue for the Qhubeka Charity.I am grateful to Marta Duponselle, Senior Marketing Manager at Dimension Data, for facilitating this opportunity.
Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka raises funds for the Qhubeka Charity to mobilise people on bicycles in Africa, as part of the #BicyclesChangeLives Campaign.
Simply put, having a bicycle changes lives by increasing the distance people can travel, what they can carry, where they can go, and how fast they can get there.
How do bycicles changes lives?
1 bicycle = increased school attendance
2 hours saved for every 10km travelled by bike
When a learner cycles to school R200 is saved on transport costs every month
A child gets to school 75% quicker
A bicycle means a person can carry 5x more
A child with a bicycle can cover 4 x the distance than a child who has to walk
Kids who ride a bicycle to school achieve up to a 59% improvement
